Ongoing Faith Formation

Develop your faith at St. Joseph Basilica

Our faith is a treasure the depths of which we will never fathom. There is always something more to learn, something new to explore. With this in mind, we offer the following workshops and bible studies for 2019-2020. These moments of faith sharing are designed to help us deepen our appreciation and practice of our faith.

Mary:  A biblical walk with the Blessed Mother

In this five-week offering, you will experience an extraordinary pilgrimage through Mary’s life and see why she is an essential part of our faith. Guided by Dr. Edward Sri, you will journey through the biblical narrative of Mary’s life and visit the places where key events in salvation history occurred. There, Dr. Sri will introduce you to the Blessed Mother on a personal level, showing how scripture, history and Jewish culture reveal the sorrows, anxieties and joys Mary would have held in her heart.

A biblical walk through the Mass

As Catholics, the Mass is the center of our faith. We celebrate it every day. We know all its responses. We know all the gestures. Do we know what it all means? In this five-week exploration, Dr. Edward Sri takes us on a unique tour of the Liturgy and explores the biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience in the Liturgy, and explains their profound significance. This intriguing look at the Mass is sure to renew your faith and deepen your love and devotion to the Eucharist.

No Greater Love

Thousands sought Jesus during his life. Only a few followed him to Calvary. What will you do?

Filmed on location in the Holy Land, No Greater Love is a biblical pilgrimage that reveals Christ’s amazing love for us. Best-selling author, Dr Edward Sri guides you through the last hours of Christ’s life. You will walk systematically with Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to Mount Calvary. Every step of the way, Old Testament prophesies, messianic expectations, biblical symbolism and historical context shed light on the mystery of Christ’s suffering and death. Experience a deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s immeasurable and unconditional love for you and grow closer to Jesus. This five-part offering is an ideal Lenten journey.

Follow Me:  Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John

This eight-session offering during the Easter season is your guide to a personal encounter with Christ. Jesus calls us to be his disciples, to trust him, to open ourselves to his merciful love and to love others as he loves us. Follow Me invites you to experience the joy of a renewed friendship with Christ.

Oremus:  Let Us Pray

Do you find it easy to pray? Is prayer an integral part of your day? Do you hear God’s voice in your daily life and know how to respond accordingly? For most of us, prayer can be a source of frustration as we struggle to calm our minds and find a few minutes to pray. In our busy lives, prayer can be seen as a luxury when in reality it is the foundation of a healthy spiritual life.

The Oremus study program teaches the essentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life. Over the course of eight weeks, you will discover how God speaks to you, even in the smallest encounters. Following the Tradition of the Catholic Church and the wisdom of the saints, you will learn how to express yourself to God in prayer, and how to hear his voice.

Forgiven:  The transforming power of Confession

Sin, guilt, failure, disappointment…these are all an unpleasant but universal reality of the human experience. We all have to deal with them, but we cannot do it alone. The remedy is immediately available and miraculously effective - The Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Confession is not a rule, a formality or an old-fashioned ritual. It is an intimate and life-changing experience of God’s mercy.

Forgiven is a workshop offered both as a full Saturday and over three evenings in preparation for the annual Day of Confessions. Forgiven explores the grace and healing offered through the sacrament and the depth and bounty of God’s love. By looking at God’s revelation of his mercy in Scripture and by making a step-by-step examination of the Rite of Penance itself, Forgiven communicates God’s invitation to each one of us to come experience his indiscernible love in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
